Foreword – Matthew

“THE KING OF THE JEWS”

“Where is He who has been born King of
the Jews? For we have seen His star in the
East and have come to worship Him.”
Matthew 2:2

These were the profound words the Wise Men used as they searched for the birthplace of Jesus. They knew WHO Jesus was, but not WHERE He was born. They were convinced that He was born to fulfil a great destiny – that of being King of the Jews! Even though the Wise Men saw only a little Child, their faith enabled them to acknowledge and worship Him for who He truly was – God’s anointed Messianic King!

“THIS IS MY BELOVED SON”

At the Baptism of Jesus, a majestic voice from heaven was heard. The words were unmistakably clear.

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am
well pleased.”
Matthew 3:17

Matthew credited this Voice from Heaven to God Himself. Who was this Man who came to Jordan for Baptism? The meaning of that message from heaven couldn’t be clearer! Jesus was no ordinary man at all. He was God’s “Beloved Son”.

This most significant statement was reiterated at the transfiguration of Jesus. In a majestic voice God declared once again,

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well
pleased. Hear Him!”
Matthew 17:5

“TRULY THIS IS THE SON OF GOD”

For three glorious years, Jesus ministered to thousands of people publicly. Those who were jealous of His success wickedly plotted His death. Yet, even in His dying moments, the power of His life impacted the observant. The Roman centurion in charge of the Crucifixion of Jesus declared in awe,

“Truly this was the Son of God!”
Matthew 27:54

BWSJ Matthew is written with a prayer that all who diligently seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness would be blessed with an even deeper faith in Jesus! Let us cultivate an even greater spirit of diligence in the study of the Scriptures.
