The seemingly unconquerable trials of life
When we look at all the challenges of life, we recognise how difficult they can be. There are many who find life most overwhelming…at times seemingly unconquerable.
The Apostle Paul raised such concerns in his epistle to the brethren in Rome, “Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” (Rom 8:35) Yet he raised it as a rhetorical question to answer those who may cast doubts as to whether these things could be overcome.
Dealing with doubts about the love of Christ
In going through these trials, doubts concerning the love of Christ may come….that His love is no longer with us. We become unsure as to whether the Lord loves us anymore. Paul dealt with these doubts by raising a rhetorical question as his answer “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” (Rom 8:35)
The truth of the matter is that nothing will separate us from the love of Christ. Nothing that we have done to ourselves such as sin or whatever difficulties that may come our way…can separate us from the love of Christ.
Conquering with a “more than conquerors” perspective
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Rom 8:37)
1. Be more than a conqueror
The word “conqueror” means to be victors, to be overcomers. We are meant to be more than victorious. It is not just a matter of overcoming but to overcome our trials and tribulations most significantly. This is indeed an outstanding perspective that Paul had…that we should employ in facing our challenges of life.
2. The means to being more than conquerors
How can we be more than conquerors? This is most possible through Christ. He will help us overcome. As He had personally overcome great trials and sufferings while on this earth, we too can be empowered to do as He did.
It is through the love of Christ that we can be victorious. His love is indeed so great and awesome. It is a wonderful and powerful means of helping us to conquer our trials of life.
Have we allowed the trials of life to overwhelm us? Let us look to Christ and His amazing love to make us more than conquerors in our seemingly unconquerable situations.
