Grace in the life of Christ
As I prepared my heart for Easter, I was considering how the grace of God was so much a part of the life of Christ. When Jesus became flesh, He manifested the glory of God that was full of grace and truth.
Throughout His life, whatever He did or said, it reflected both grace and truth. Yet this grace was also most evident towards the end of His earthly life…in His suffering and death. From beginning to end, the life of Jesus was full of grace. Truly, He is the epitome of grace.
Grace in His death
My meditation drew me to the words of the author of Hebrews who wrote these most significant words, “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.” (Hebrews 2:9) What do we see as we look at the Lord Jesus?
The author reveals that Jesus was able to face the challenges of His death by the grace of God. How should we see the grace of God?
1. Grace in sacrifice
It was by the grace of God that Christ was able to make such a glorious sacrifice. As a man, He reflected the glory of God and of His grace in His dying. No other man has shown such great grace than the Lord Jesus in how He gave His very life as a sacrifice for us.
2. Grace in suffering
It was by the grace of God that Christ had to go through much suffering. He was beaten, whipped and given a crown of thorns. Finally, He would taste the pain and suffering of carrying the cross and dying upon it. Only by grace was Jesus able to go through such indescribable suffering.
3. Grace in significance
It was by the grace of God that the Lord was able to taste death for everyone. In dying on the cross, there was great significance in what Jesus did. He was able to vicariously pay the price for our sins…to taste death for all mankind. Wonderfully, the grace of God was able to help Jesus die for the greatest and most significant cause of all time…saving all mankind.
What do you see as you look at the Lord this Holy Week? “But we see Jesus”…I stand in awe of the amazing glory of the grace of God that was so evident in the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus. Let’s truly see the Lord Jesus in all of God’s glory as the epitome of grace.
