NATURE SINGS OUT THE LORD’S GLORY
It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. On top of a cliff at Bali, I saw God’s creation in one of its majestic displays of glory and praise to its Creator. The clouds were ablaze with orange rays from the set sun, and the ocean was almost still, quiet, perhaps awed in this resplendent moment of what it was beholding. I too was lost in wonder as this symphony of colors was splashing and playing out across the sky; nature singing out His glory for as long as time prevails.
According to Wikipedia, within the troposphere, red and orange clouds almost entirely occur at sunrise or sunset due to the scattering of sunlight by the atmosphere. When the angle between the sun and the horizon is less than 10 percent and together with particles in the atmosphere, sunlight becomes red while other colors due to refraction would not be seen. It is interesting to note how God would use random particles in the atmosphere to create such beauty; random yet intelligently designed.
As I beheld this wondrous scene, I was reminded of how our Lord whose name is alone to be exalted and whose glory is above the earth and the heaven (Psalm 148:13) deserves the greatest praise not just from nature but from all mankind. I stood in awe by this picturesque frame of time where I could not help but break forth in gladsome praise to my Creator and King.
ALL ON EARTH SHOULD PRAISE THE LORD
“Praise the Lord from the earth,…” Psalm 148:7
The Psalmist in the text of Psalm 148 made a great call not just for the universe to sing praise to its magnificent Creator but for everything on earth to do so as well. Every living and non-living thing should give glorious praise and honor that is due to our God. The call was made for the biggest living things to the smallest to give praise. The Psalmist called on weather, whether hail or fire, snow or cloud or stormy wind to give glorify God where it is due. All the mountains and the hills and all the people of the world are to give Him honor. Most of all, we, His people blessed by the Lord, are to give Him glory.
“And He has exalted the horn of His people, the praise of all His saints- of the children of Israel, a people near to Him. Praise the Lord!” Psalm 148:14
The Lord had demonstrated His love to His people and His saints by blessing them. The horn is a metaphor for power and strength. The Lord had strengthen His people and made them outstanding. He had drawn close to His people. Moses declared in the text of Deut. 4:7 that there is no other nation like Israel to which God drew near. Like Israel then, we too are blessed today because we are part of His people and saints. Young men and maidens (Psalm 148:12), let’s give praise to the Lord for He truly deserves it.
