“I WILL PERFORM THAT GOOD THING WHICH I HAVE PROMISED”

 

(I) A PROFOUND SET OF PROMISES

1. In the context of war and destruction


2. In the context of desolation and despair (Jeremiah 33:1-5)

a) Jeremiah in prison

b) Jerusalem under siege


(II) FEATURES OF THIS SET OF PROMISES

1. Physical restoration

a) Health (Jeremiah 33:6)

b) Healing (Jeremiah 33:6)

c) Abundance of peace and truth (Jeremiah 33:6)

d) Return of the diaspora (Jeremiah 33:7)

e) Rebuilding of the land (Jeremiah 33:7)

 

2. Spiritual dimension

a) Cleansing of iniquity (Jeremiah 33:8)

b) Pardoning of iniquity (Jeremiah 33:8)


3. New prospects for the future

A new name of joy, praise and honour (Jeremiah 33:9).


(III) FULFILMENT OF THESE PROMISES

1. Promise of the Lord

“I will perform that good thing which I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah” Jeremiah 33:14

 

2. Prophecy of the Davidic Messiah

a) A Branch of Righteousness (Jeremiah 33:15)

b) He will execute judgment and righteousness (Jeremiah 33:15)

 

(IV) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

1. Grateful worship

2. Greater faith

3. Greater hope
