Text: Proverbs 6:12-15
28 July 2002

Dear Parents,

THE PROBLEM OF AN EVIL HUMAN HEART
The Scriptures teach us that we are born sinners! The burden of sin comes upon all! Since sin is a part of our human nature, then the tendency to become wicked is very real. We need to deal with the problem of sin at its deepest level.

THE PROBLEM OF PERVERSITY IN THE LIFE OF A WICKED PERSON
The word “perverse” needs to be understood carefully. This word describes a person who deliberately and consciously chooses to be contrary. Let us ponder over this text that warns us that people can become very perverse.

Perversity is in his heart,
He devises evil continually,
He sows discord.

Proverbs 6:14

This text is a continuation of the Biblical description of the wicked man. Not only is the wicked man perverse in his speech, his perversity goes down deeply to his heart. Watch the wicked person at work. He will always be devising evil deeds to be perpetrated. Not only that, he will sow discord wherever he goes!

A SEVERE WARNING TO THE WICKED
The Biblical writer warns that the wicked person would get his just reward one day.

Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly;
Suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.

Proverbs 6:15

The wicked person often imagines that he would be able to get away with his misdeeds. He is warned that he would not get away with speaking and doing wicked things.

When he least expects it, calamity will visit him. He will be broken up so badly, that there would not be a remedy to his problem.

THE CHALLENGE TO TEACH OUR CHILDREN GOOD MORALS TO LIVE BY
Let us seek to teach our children about faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We must do more than just win them to the Lord. We must give them good Biblical morals that would prevent them from being corrupted by wicked thoughts and deeds.

Bringing up children is not just a matter of providing for their physical needs. It is also a matter of teaching them how to live uprightly.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
