MISCELLANEOUS SUBJECTS
Proverbs 11 covers a wide range of subjects. There is no need to be surprised by this though, for as we look at humanity, we realize that we need knowledge and wisdom to cope with the many different aspects of life. The challenge therefore is to try and master as many aspects of life as possible. Where there is lack of knowledge, then we must do everything we can to increase both volume and depth of understanding.

BROAD CATEGORIES
As we study the Book of Proverbs, we realize that we can categorize the many topics under certain main subjects.

1. Concern about Integrity in Life

This is certainly one of the main concerns of the Book of Proverbs. Thus the term “integrity” is used. Consider this clear statement.

The integrity of the upright will guide them,
But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.

Proverbs 11:3

The word “integrity” is closely associated with the word “righteousness”. They are in fact inseparable concepts. Consider this text.

The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright,
But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.

Proverbs 11:5

2. Concern about the problem of Wickedness

There is just as much concern about the problem of wickedness. Again and again, there will be direct comparisons or contrasts made between integrity and wickedness. This concern is justified, for wickedness appears in many disguises and forms.

There is grave warning issued concerning the problem of wickedness. The reason is obvious.

When a wicked man dies, his expectations will perish,
And the hope of the unjust perishes.

Proverbs 11:7

THE CHALLENGE OF PARENTING
Surely one of the challenges of parenting is to make sure that our children do not end up as wicked people. How our hearts must yearn in prayer that our children would grow up into adults who walk in integrity. Let us continually be deeply challenged by the great task of parenting.
