Dear Parents,

RIGHTEOUSNESS AS A WAY OF LIFE
This is an important word that we must help our children to learn. Let us be careful of the secular and worldly approach of life. Let us consider the following texts on the subject of righteousness.

1. The Blessing of the Lord upon the Righteous

“The righteous is delivered from trouble…

Proverbs 11:8

… through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.

Proverbs 11:9

… he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward.

Proverbs 11:18

… the righteous will flourish like foliage.

Proverbs 11:28

2. Through the righteous, blessings are extended to others

By the blessing of the upright (read, “righteous”) the city is exalted…

Proverbs 11:11

… the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.

Proverbs 11:21

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life…

Proverbs 11:30

CHILDREN CAN BE TAUGHT TO LOVE RIGHTEOUSNESS
Children can be taught to love righteousness. However, it would demand diligence on the part of parents before this love for righteousness can be inculcated. Parents must be prepared to practise personal righteousness if they are to teach their children effectively.

1. Children must be taught to shun wickedness

This is an important thought to consider! Wickedness allowed to remain in the heart would ruin the work of righteousness.

2. The judgment and destruction of the wicked are clearly stated in the Scriptures.

… the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.

Proverbs 11:5

When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish,
And the hope of the unjust perishes.

Proverbs 11:7

The wicked man does deceptive work…

Proverbs 11:18

Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished…

Proverbs 11:21

Let us inculcate a heart of love for righteousness in our children.
