Text: Proverbs 10
17 November 2002
Dear Parents,
OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
Let’s review what we have learned thus far:-
1. We learn how to LIST.
2. We learn how to CATEGORISE.
We need to learn how to make good observations and then interpret the texts correctly.
PREVENTION OF INTERPRETING BIBLE VERSES INCORRECTLY
When we learn how to read the Lord’s Word properly, we prevent ourselves from reading the Scriptures wrongly. We learn that Bible verses are never read and interpreted in isolation. They are to be interpreted within their proper contexts and categories.
INTERPRETING GOD’S WORD CORRECTLY
When we read and interpret the Scriptures correctly, we would then be able to apply the Word of God properly in our life.
APPLYING THE WORD OF GOD
We must always be challenged to apply the Word of God in our life. What are some of the challenges we find as we study Proverbs 10? Surely, we are challenged to live a life marked by Righteousness!
COMPARING AND CONTRASTING BIBLICAL STATEMENTS
It is important that we cultivate the discipline of studying God’s Word with great diligence. Wisdom teaches us that if we are to appreciate the virtue of Righteousness, we need to contrast it with a study of “Wickedness”.
LIST OF STATEMENTS CONCERNING THE WICKED
1. “Treasures of wickedness profit nothing…”
Proverbs 10:2
2. “… He casts away the desire of the wicked.”
Proverbs 10:3
3. “…Violence covers the mouth of the wicked.”
Proverbs 10:6,11
4. “… The name of the wicked will rot.”
Proverbs 10:7
5. “… The wages of the wicked leads to sin.”
Proverbs 10:16
6. “… The heart of the wicked is worth little.”
Proverbs 10:20
7. “When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more…”
Proverbs 10:25
8. “… the expectation of the wicked will perish.”
Proverbs 10:28
9. “… the wicked will not inhabit the earth.”
Proverbs 10:30
10. “… the mouth of the wicked (knows) what is perverse.”
Proverbs 10:32
OBVIOUS LESSONS
As we study these texts, we begin to appreciate the challenge to live a life of righteousness even more! Let us cultivate a life marked by righteousness. Only as we live righteously would we be able to impact our children’s lives significantly!
Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
