Text: Proverbs 10
15 December 2002

Dear Parents,

A QUICK REVIEW OF PROVERBS 10
Proverbs 10 is a very challenging chapter to read indeed. We have discovered two main categories of thoughts in this chapter thus far:-

1. The category of people called “The Righteous and the Wicked”.

2. The category that focuses on the “The Right and Wrong use of The Tongue”.

There is a third category that we may observe. This category may be called:-

3. The category of “The Wise and the Foolish”.

CONTRASTING OBSERVATIONS MADE
There is sharp contrast made between the Wise and the Foolish son.

1. “A wise son makes a glad father,
But a foolish son is the grief of his mother.”
Proverbs 10:1

2. “He who gathers in summer is a wise son;
He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.”
Proverbs 10:5

3. “The wise in heart will receive commands,
But a prating fool will fall.”
Proverbs 10:8

4. “Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding,
But a rod is for the back of him who is devoid of understanding.”
Proverbs 10:13

OVERLAPPING OF THOUGHTS
If we were to study Proverbs carefully, we would notice that there is an overlap of thoughts. This is not unusual at all. Life is seldom neatly and distinctly separated. Let us note the areas of overlap. May we use our knowledge to guide our children well.

1. The positive overlapping areas

a) The righteous

b) The wise

c) The proper use of the tongue

d) The blessings of the Lord

2. The negative overlapping areas

a) The wicked

b) The unwise

c) The improper use of the tongue

d) The condemnation of the Lord

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
