Text: Proverbs 14
17 August 2003

Dear Parents,

THE PRACTICE OF “THE FEAR OF THE LORD”
As we teach children about how they should practise the fear of the Lord in life, we are reminded that our faith in God was ever meant to be practised! Let us work hard and make sure that our children will not end up having a theoretical faith in the Lord. Let us take up the other mention of “the fear of the Lord”.

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life
To turn one away from the snares of death.

Proverbs 14:27

A FOUNTAIN OF LIFE
What would we give to see our children come alive to God? As we look at this text we are reminded of what Jesus said about the life that He gives. To the woman of Samaria Jesus said,

But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him
will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him
a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.

John 4:14

To the multitudes Jesus made a similar promise.

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said,
Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

John 7:38

It is interesting to see how both concepts are related.

1. There must of course be genuine faith in God.

2. That genuine faith in the Lord will cause a person to practise his faith in God.

3. God who is the source of life itself will create an eternal spring of water in the life of the believer who practices the fear of the Lord.

TEACH CHILDREN HOW TO APPRECIATE THE PRACTICE OF FAITH IN LIFE
Let us teach our children how they may find God real in their lives. When they have found the life-refreshing fountain of God, they will not be drawn to things that would ensnare them. Let us pray for our children that they may discover God real in their lives. Our example will go a long way to help them find God real.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
