Text: Proverbs 16
16 May 2004

Dear Parents,

IN THE ULTIMATE ANALYSIS
The Book of Proverbs offers astute observations of life. Much wisdom may be found in the careful study of the principles found in this book. The singular difference between the wisdom found in Proverbs and other books of wisdom is the constant reference to God. The following texts provide adequate proof.

All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes,
But the LORD weighs the spirits.

Proverbs 16:2

Commit your works to the LORD,
And your thoughts will be established.

Proverbs 16:3

The LORD has made all for Himself,
Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.

Proverbs 16:4

Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD;
Though they join forces, none will go unpunished.

Proverbs 16:5

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE REFERENCE TO GOD
What is the significance of these references to the Lord? It is vital that we comprehend what the texts are saying. Two thoughts may be highlighted.

1. True and ultimate wisdom for life must include the Lord

No matter how wise a person may be, if he does not include the Lord in his life, he isn’t all that wise!

2. The challenge to discover more about the Lord

The book of Proverbs constantly offers intriguing insights that challenge the individual to see the Lord and His deeper wisdom. It is one thing to have human wisdom, but it is quite another to see things from the perspective of the Lord! Therein is full and complete wisdom.

SEEKING THE HIGHEST WISDOM EVER
When a man evaluates his own life, he may think he has done very well. Indeed, his view of his ways is that they are “pure”. However, he must consider an even more important perspective. What is the Lord’s view of things?

The Lord may have a totally different view of things altogether! The Lord weighs the very spirit of man! Man may look at things from the perspective of the outcome. However, the Lord considers the way in which a thing is done as important also. The challenge to all is to discover the wisdom or the word of the Lord in every thing!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
