Text: Proverbs 15
4 April 2004

Dear Parents,

WATCH OUT FOR THE PROBLEM OF GREED
To have a healthy appetite is one thing. To be greedy is quite another. The problem of greed is deeper than we may care to admit. Let us ponder the problem of greed from this text.

He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house,
But he who hates bribes will live.

Proverbs 15:27

DEEP ROOTS
What are some of the problems associated with the problem of greed – especially greed for material gain?

1. The spirit of discontentment

The person who is greedy for gain is basically an unhappy and discontented person. He never feels he has enough!

2. The spirit of covetousness

The person who desires gain all the time is a person who is caught up with the problem of covetousness. This particular sin was expressly mentioned as the tenth commandment in the Decalogue.

3. The spirit of foolishness

The person who engages in all kinds of activities, all in the name of gain will find that he is overcome by the spirit of foolishness indeed.

a) He does not know that what he is doing will ultimately create trouble for himself and his household.

b) He is unable to see beyond his foolishness and he does not realize that what he will gain would not be success… but trouble!

TEACHING OUR CHILDREN WHAT LIFE IS ALL ABOUT!
Much lies in the way we teach our children what life is all about. The words of the Lord Jesus come to mind as we ponder the question of Life.

Then He said to His disciples,
‘Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat; nor about your body, what you will put on.
Life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.’

Luke 12:22-23

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
