Text: Proverbs 16
25 July 2004

Dear Parents,

ANOTHER WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO PURSUE WISDOM
Once again we have another word of encouragement to pursue wisdom. Let us not grow weary in our quest to help our children to grow up wisely.

He who heeds the word wisely will find good,
And whoever trusts in the LORD, happy is he.

Proverbs 16:20

How may a person find wisdom? Two practical things are suggested:-

1. Learning to heed words of wisdom

This is one way of obtaining wisdom. A child would, of course, not be able to find wisdom in himself. However, if he picks up the habit of paying heed to good words of advice given, he will commence acquiring wisdom.

2. Learning to trust the Lord

If that word of wisdom is from the Word of the Lord, and if there is also that trust in Him, the seeker of wisdom would also find joy!

A CASCADE OF BLESSINGS ON THE WISE IN HEART
If a person continues to search for wisdom, he might soon discover that he becomes a prudent individual.

The wise in heart will be called prudent,
And sweetness of the lips increases learning.
Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it,
But the correction of fools is folly.

Proverbs 16:21

Wisdom bears wonderful fruit! Let us consider some of the fruits of wisdom.

1. A good name

He who attains to wisdom will be well regarded. People will call the wise-hearted “prudent”.

2. Wisdom begets wisdom

When a person has learned to be prudent, he becomes skilled in the use of the tongue. When he is able to speak with great prudence, he finds that there is “sweetness of the lips”. He will find that people would like him and they would share their wisdom with him. Blessing upon blessing cascades on the person who pursues wisdom!

3. A wellspring of life

The wise person discovers in time that wisdom becomes a wellspring of life in him! What a great blessing from the Lord this is!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
