“I, THE LORD, HAVE CALLED YOU IN RIGHTEOUSNESS”


(I) THE CALLING OF THE MESSIAH-SERVANT

1. Explained Clearly

a) Called in righteousness (Isaiah 42:8)

b) Held by the Lord’s hand (Isaiah 42:8)

c) Promise of keeping (Isaiah 42:8)

d) To be given as a Covenant (Isaiah 42:8)

e) To be a light to the Gentiles (Isaiah 42:8)

 

2. Ministry Outlined

a) To open blind eyes (Isaiah 42:8)

b) To bring out prisoners (Isaiah 42:8)

 

(II) THE LORD WHO CALLS

1. The Name of the LORD proclaimed

“I am the LORD” Isaiah 42:9

 

2. The glory of the LORD

“My glory I will not give to another” Isaiah 42:9

a) His glory is sacred

b) It is not easily given to people

c) It will be given only to One who is truly faithful

d) Jesus was given fullness of glory (John 12:28)

 

(III) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE TO GOD’S CALLING

1. The example of the Lord Jesus (John 12:24-28)

a) As wheat that falls into the ground and dies

b) Serving faithfully despite pain, suffering and death

 

2. The Challenge issued

a) To follow the Lord

b) To lose one’s life for His sake

c) To know that our life given to the Lord will be honoured
