Text: Proverbs 20
18 December 2005

Dear Parents,

HOW VULNERABLE ARE OUR CHILDREN TO EVIL?
Evil does not respect age. It can and will seek to corrupt anyone and at any age. Not even children are spared.

HOW WOULD WE KNOW IF OUR CHILDREN ARE AFFECTED?
We have an intriguing text that may shed some light on this subject.

Even a child is known by his deeds,
Whether what he does is pure and right.

Proverbs 20:11

1. “Even a child…”

a) Children can be influenced by evil.

b ) Children can also be influenced by goodness.

2. “Known by his deeds”

a) All are best known by deeds not by words (Proverbs 20:6-7).

b) Children are also known by their deeds.

3. “Whether what he does is pure and right”

a) A clear statement

Deeds are measured by whether they are “pure” and whether they are “right”.

b) An implied statement

An unstated but obviously implied statement is the opposite of the “clear statement”. Children’s deeds can also be “impure and wrong”.

EMPLOYING ALL THAT GOD HAS GIVEN US
How may we know how to help our children? We must employ what God has given to us.

The hearing ear and the seeing eye,
The LORD has made them both.

Proverbs 20:12

Let us be challenged to develop what God has graciously blessed us with.

1. Developing a discerning ear

2. Developing a discerning eye

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
