“THOSE WHO KNOW YOUR NAME WILL PUT THEIR TRUST IN YOU”
(I) THE COVENANTAL NAME OF GOD
“Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’ ” ” Exodus 3:15
1. God of your fathers
a) Abraham
b) Isaac
c) Jacob
2. An everlasting name
3. His memorial for all generation
4. Based on the covenantal promises (Genesis 12-22)
a) He was deeply committed to these forefathers
b) God personally strengthened each one based on His name and promises
We should appreciate the covenantal name of God
(II) PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE NAME OF GOD
“And those who know Your name will put their trust in You” Psalm 9:10
1. Developing a personal knowledge of God
a) Remembering the covenantal name
b) A powerful name
c) A name as a memorial
2. Appreciating different titles of the name of God
a) Each name has its own significance
b) LORD (Psalm 9:1, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 16, 19, 20)
i) Regarded as Master
ii) To give full obedience
c) O Most High (Psalm 9:2)
i) He is considered the Most High God
ii) There is no one as High as God.
We should seek to know the many titles of God
(III) THE EFFECT OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE NAME OF GOD
1. Inspire trust
“And those who know Your name will put their trust in You” Psalm 9:10
2. Give courage
“The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.” Psalm 9:9
3. Strengthen the mind and heart
“For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.” Psalm 9:10
(IV) ACTS OF TRUST IN THE LORD’S NAME
1. Trust in the Lord’s judgment
“But the Lord shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment. He shall judge the world in righteousness, and He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.” Psalm 9:7-8
2. Trust in praying for mercy
“Have mercy on me, O Lord! Consider my trouble from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death,” Psalm 9:13
3. Trust that God’s will prevail over all
“Arise, O Lord, Do not let man prevail; Let the nations be judged in Your sight. Put them in fear, O Lord, that the nations may know themselves to be but men.” Psalm 9:19:20
(V) RESPONSES TO TRUSTING THE NAME OF GOD
1. Giving heartfelt praise for the name of God
“I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart;” Psalm 9:1
2. Share of His marvellous works
“I will tell of all Your marvellous works” Psalm 9:1
3. Rejoice in the Lord
“I will be glad and rejoice in You;” Psalm 9:2
4. Sing praise to the Lord’s name
“I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High” Psalm 9:2
