Text: Proverbs 24
23 July 2006

Dear Parents,

CHOOSING THE WAY OF THE WISE
The way of the wise should be appreciated and emulated. It is certainly far better than the way of the wicked. The following text bears testimony of this great truth.

Through wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
By knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.

Proverbs 24:3-4

In order to appreciate this text better, we must attempt to draw a contrast between the wise and the wicked.

1. Taking time to obtain success

a) The wicked would stop at nothing to obtain success.

b) The wise will seek to establish his house on the foundation of wisdom.

2. Acquiring wealth

a) The wicked would even use violence if he can obtain wealth through it.

b) The wise will obtain riches through the wise application of knowledge.

The contrast between the ways of the wise and the wicked are very obvious. Let us encourage our children to choose the way of the wise at all times.

THE STRENGTH THAT COMES WITH WISDOM
The wicked imagines that he is strong when he employs violence against the weak. The following text highlights what true strength really is.

A wise man is strong,
Yes, a man of knowledge increases strength;
For by wise counsel you will wage your own war,
And in a multitude of counselors there is safety.

Proverbs 24:5-6

There is brute strength, and there is strength that comes from wisdom. The latter is obviously far better. Brute strength wanes after a while. Strength that comes from wisdom increases with greater knowledge obtained.

Strength from wise counsel has no parallel. And if there is a multitude of wise counselors, great is the safety of that city. Let us encourage our children to find the strength that comes from wisdom.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
