Text: Proverbs 24
30 July 2006

Dear Parents,

THE WAY OF THE FOOLISH
In yet another contrast to wisdom, the way of the foolish is noted. Let us ponder the following text carefully and prayerfully. May we guide our children to walk away from the path of foolishness.

Wisdom is too lofty for a fool;
He does not open his mouth at the gate.
He who plots to do evil
Will be called a schemer.
The devising of foolishness is sin,
And the scoffer is an abomination to men.

Proverbs 24:7-9

Let us consider the following features associated with the foolish.

1. At the gates of wisdom

Wisdom is portrayed as something that is available to everyone. There is only one requisite. The individual must open his mouth to ask for wisdom to be given. However, the foolish man will not ask for wisdom at all. Wisdom will indeed appear as being “too lofty for a fool”.

2. Choosing the path of sin

The foolish in rejecting the path of wisdom, will end up walking in the path of sin.

a) He will choose to plot evil.

b) He will end up with a reputation for being “a schemer”.

c) He will end up “devising foolishness”.

d) he could end up being “a scoffer”.

e) He could be written of by men as “an abomination”.

INCREASING STRENGTH
The path of the righteous is a difficult one. The way of the sinful is a very much broader one, but that leads to certain death. We must teach children how to find that special strength from the Lord. May we be given strength so that we will not faint in the day of adversity. May our strength not be small at all.

If you faint in the day of adversity,
Your strength is small.

Proverbs 24:10

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
