Text: Proverbs 26
10 June 2007
Dear Parents,
A SENSE OF HUMOUR
There is room for light moments in life. God gave to man a great sense of humour, and when well utilized will bring cheer to the heart. Good humour reflects well the joyful disposition of the heart.
WHERE IT’S NOT FUNNY AT ALL
The following text makes a distinction between humour and that which is ill-intentioned “fun”.
Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows and death,
Is the man who deceives his neighbour,
And says, ‘I was only joking.’Proverbs 26:18
1. Humour ceases where lives are endangered
a) Mention of instruments of death
i) Firebrands can burn down houses.
ii) Arrows can maim and kill.
b) The work of a madman
i) Only a madman would kill wantonly.
ii) Only a madman would have no sense of responsibility when he spreads destruction.
2. The deadliness of deception
a) Deception is classified as a deadly problem.
b) A neighbour deceived is an individual who may suffer terrible consequences.
3. It’s not a joke
a) When people are hurt along the way.
b) When pranks can end up destroying property or lives.
Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
