Text: Proverbs 26
24 June 2007

Dear Parents,

THE DEADLY SIN OF DECEIT
We must ever teach our children never to indulge in deceit. It is far more deadly than we imagine. Let us ponder the following text carefully.

Fervent lips with a wicked heart
Are like earthenware covered with silver dross.
He who hates, disguises it with his lips,
And lays up deceit within himself;
When he speaks kindly, do not believe him,
For there are seven deadly abominations in his heart;
Though his hatred is covered by deceit,
His wickedness will be revealed before the assembly.

Proverbs 26:23-26

1. Deception hides:-

a) A wicked heart

b) Deep hatred

c) Abomination of the worst kind

2. Forms of expression used by the deceiver

a) He will speak “fervently” (trying to create an air of genuineness).

b) He will use “kindness”.

3. Ultimately the deceiver will harm himself

a) Deceit will be exposed.

b) The deceiver will be caught out one day.

c) His words are only “earthenware” covered by silver dross. There is no value in his words at all.

d) The person will bring his own downfall.

Whoever digs a pit will fall into it.

Proverbs 26:27a

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
