Text: Proverbs 27
5 August 2007

Dear Parents,

A GOOD MEANING
The word “wanderer” is not in itself “a bad word”. In a general sense, this word may describe the following:-

1. The explorer of old

a) He seeks to explore the world.

b) He seeks to discover new trade routes.

c) It may describe the adventurer.

2. It may also be used in a good sense to describe

a) The missionary who pioneers in new frontiers.

b) He seeks to present the Gospel to those who have never heard about the salvation we have in Christ.

A BAD CONNOTATION
However, the term “wanderer” can also be applied in a negative sort of way. Let us consider the following text.

Like a bird that wanders from its nest
Is a man who wanders from his place.

Proverbs 27:8

1. Natural for a bird to look after its young

a) It is natural for a bird to build its nest.

b) It is also natural for a bird to look after its nest.

c) It is again most natural for a bird to look after its young.

d) In some instances, a bird may abandon its nest!

2. Natural for a man to look after his family

a) This is most natural.

b) Woe betide the man who wanders from his duty of looking after his family.

Let us take time to pray for our family! May we learn to treasure it.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
