Dear Parents,

CONTENTIOUSNESS
The following text may bring a smile upon the face. The picture of a contentious woman is almost hilarious, except for the person(s) who have to live with her.

A continual dripping on a very rainy day
And a contentious woman are alike;
Whoever restrains her restrains the wind,
And grasps oil with his right hand.

Proverbs 27:15-16

1. Strong imagery

a) Continual dripping of the rain

b) The wind

c) Oil

2. Contained within the imageries are deep suggestions:-

a) Contentiousness in a person (woman) is wearying.

b) The contentious person cannot be restrained.

c) One cannot grab oil by the hand.

POINT OF THIS PROVERB
What is the point of this proverb?

1. To help the individual to avoid such a person

2. To help the contentious person to seek changes

a) Since she cannot be helped by outsiders.

b) She must realize the consequences of her behaviour.

c) She must personally seek to overcome her problem behaviour.

d) Only God can help her effect the changes!
