Text: Proverbs 27
21 October 2007

Dear Parents,

ANATOMICAL PARTS
The Book of Proverbs often uses the different parts of the human anatomy to teach deep truths. The heart is compared to a water-mirror (Proverbs 27:19). The following truth is well illustrated using the human eye.

Hell and Destruction are never full;
So the eyes of man are never satisfied.

Proverbs 27:20

1. What is never satisfied?

The proverbial writer lists two somber things:-

a) Hell is never satisfied

It will keep seeking more to enter into its abode.

b) Destruction

The sword is never satisfied. It will always seek to kill and destroy.

2. The human eye

It is interesting to note the following comparison:-

a) The eye is compared to “hell and destruction”.

b) It is described as “never satisfied”.

WHAT IS THE POINT?
The book of Ecclesiastes made a similar observation about the human eye.

The eye is not satisfied with seeing,
Nor the ear filled with hearing.

Ecclesiastes 1:8b

1. In a good sense

a) The eye is capable of offering instruction.

b) The eye is a good teacher.

2. In a bad sense

a) The eye represents a restless heart.

b) It becomes unhappy and dissatisfied after a while.

Let us be challenged to make our eyes do good things!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
