Text: Proverbs 27
11 November 2007

Dear Parents,

LESSONS ON DILIGENCE
One of the most important lessons we must seek to teach our children is “diligence”. (This principle is applicable to all ages and is relevant to every aspect of life.) The following text teaches us how diligence may be applied to the subject of wealth.

Be diligent to know the state of your flocks,
And attend to your herds;
For riches are not forever,
Nor does a crown endure to all generations.

Proverbs 27:23-24

1. Diligence to be exercised by all

a) The people who tend to:-

i) Flocks (sheep/goats)

ii) Herds (cattle)

b) The people who manage funds.

c) The people who sit on thrones.

2. Reasons why diligence must be exercised all the time

a) The state of the flocks/herds

i) They may be afflicted by diseases.

ii) They may be stolen.

iii) They may be lost.

b) Riches are not forever

i) It would be a mistake to think that wealth will endure by itself.

ii) Only diligence will prevent the loss of wealth.

c) Guarding of the crown

No king who is wise takes for granted that his position as ruler is secure!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
