Text: Proverbs 28
10 February 2008

Dear Parents,

DEALING WITH OUR SINS HONESTLY
We need to teach our children to deal with sins honestly. Children tend to lie their way out of trouble, if they are allowed to do so! They don’t have to be taught how to lie, for lying is but one of many expressions of the sinful nature we have.

He who covers his sins will not prosper,
But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

Proverbs 28:13

1. Covering up sin

a) Sin is acknowledged.

b) However, sin is not dealt with.

c) It is just “covered up” (swept under the proverbial carpet).

2. Consequences of this action

a) Our sin will find us out.

b) We will not prosper!

3. Confessing our sins

a) This is necessary and wise.

b) We might as well confess, for God knows all about our sin!

4. Forsaking our sins

a) It is not enough to merely confess our sins.

b) There must be a definite breakaway from our sin problem.

FROM PAINFUL EXPERIENCE
The psalmist David noted a time when he did not deal with his sin as he should. He sought to cover his sin. This was what he experienced when he did this.

When I kept silent, my bones grew old
Through my groaning all the day long.

Psalm 32:3

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
