Text: Proverbs 30
19 October 2008

Dear Parents,

REGARD FOR THE WORD OF GOD
Agur offers deep personal insight as to how we ought to regard the Word of God. His words of advice are very sound!

Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
Do not add to His words,
Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.

Proverbs 30:5-6

1. Quality of God’s word

This is adjudged “very pure”.

2. Danger of a wrong regard of God’s word

a) Wrong regard of God’s word

i) Some feel that they need to “update God’s word”.

ii) Some others have tried to remove the mention of miracles.

iii) Still others treat the Scriptures as nothing more than human literature.

b) A wrong move – “to add to (God’s) words”

i) This is an impossible task.

ii) Impure man cannot add to the purity of God’s word.

iii) God will rebuke the man who tries to add to His words.

iv) God will prove the individual wrong and he would be proven “a liar”.

3. Great to have a deep trust in God (and His word)

a) A right regard for God will lead to a right regard for His word.

b) A right understanding of the Lord’s word would also lead to deep trust in Him.

c) This trust in God would see the Lord becoming His shield!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
