Text: Proverbs 30
23 November 2008

Dear Parents,

A THIRD STATEMENT ABOUT THE NEXT GENERATION
We have a third statement that must also be studied carefully.

There is a generation – oh, how lofty are their eyes!
And their eyelids are lifted up.

Proverbs 30:13

1. “There is a generation”

a) This statement highlights the fact that the problem is not an isolated one.

b) Many people are affected – in fact, a whole generation.

2. “How lofty are their eyes… and their eyelids are lifted up”

a) This describes the following possibilities:-

i) Great pride

ii) Arrogance

iii) Self-righteousness

iv) Despising of others

v) High opinion of self

b) The danger is sounded

i) The person filled with self-importance is due for a fall.

ii) The person risks incurring the wrath of God.

iii) The spread of such a spirit of arrogance is swift and deadly.

THIS WARNING MUST BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY
Let us work hard at bringing up children who are humble and not haughty! Let us bring up children who have great respect for others. Most of all let us bring up children who will walk humbly before God! One of the sins that God detests most is the sin of pride (Proverbs 6:16-19). Let us pray much for children diligently!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
