Text: Proverbs 30
21 December 2008

Dear Parents,

DEEP AND WONDROUS THINGS
Agur, the author of these proverbs gives us a glimpse of the things that fascinates him. He offers no explanation of these things he observes.

There are three things which are too wonderful for me,
Yes, four which I do not understand:
The way of an eagle in the air,
The way of a serpent on a rock,
The way of a ship in the midst of the sea,
And the way of a man with a virgin.

Proverbs 30:18-19

1. “Too wonderful… I do not understand”

a) These are things that could do with a lot more study and research.

b) These are things that must not be taken for granted.

c) These are things that must humble a person.

2. Limited knowledge in ancient times

a) The study of eagles

b) The study of snakes

c) The study of ships

d) The study of human behaviour (man and woman relationships)

There was limited knowledge! These things served to challenge Agur to declare that he was fascinated! He must have been deeply challenged to garner deeper knowledge of these things!

ENCOURAGING OUR CHILDREN TO DISCOVER KNOWLEDGE
There are many things in the world that are worth studying! Children must be encouraged to always cultivate a thirst for knowledge! Wisdom may be found in any area of knowledge explored!

Great advancement has been made in the study of the subjects Agur expressed interest in! Today much has been learned about eagles, snakes, ships and human behaviour! Much more waits to be studied and discovered!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
