Text: Proverbs 31
15 February 2009

Dear Parents,

THAT WHICH GOD HAS BLESSED US WITH
God has blessed mankind in many wondrous ways! In His gracious provision, God has planned it such that the following text applies universally.

I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice,
and to do good in their lives, and also that every man
should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labour –
it is the gift of God.

Ecclesiastes 3:12-13

The Lord meant us to enjoy our life on earth!

1. We are to labour hard to make a living.

2. We may rejoice in the rewards of our labour.

3. We are to do good with what God has blessed us with.

4. We may enjoy both food and drink!

THE WAY OF KINGS
Lemuel’s mother must have impressed the following lesson on her son deeply.

It is not for kings, O Lemuel,
It is not for kings to drink wine,
Nor for princes intoxicating drinks.

Proverbs 31:4

1. The way of commoners and kings distinguished

a) This distinction is not necessarily evil.

b) It does not suggest “a racial apartheid” problem either.

2. An important reminder to those who are born to be kings

a) They have to remember that they were born with great privileges.

b) With the privileges given to royalty they must learn responsibility.

c) Both kings and princes are specifically named!

d) They are to avoid becoming intoxicated at all cost!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
