Text: Proverbs 31
1 March 2009

Dear Parents

CONCERN ABOUT JUSTICE
The Book of Proverbs is deeply concerned about “justice”. This is the last entry on this subject.

Open your mouth for the speechless,
In the cause of all who are appointed to die.
Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And plead the cause of the poor and needy.

Proverbs 31:8-9

1. The plight of the following is heart-rending

a) The speechless (those who have no means of effective recourse).

b) Those who are appointed to die (sentenced to death… sometimes wrongfully).

c) The poor and needy

2. The people who can render significant help

a) Those who are in the position of “a judge”.

b) These must use their judicial powers faithfully.

c) They must plead the cause of the poor and needy.

SOCIAL INJUSTICE DECRIED
Isaiah and many other prophets took up a cry against social injustice in the land. The following text is an example of such cries against injustice.

How the faithful city has become a harlot!
It as full of justice;
Righteousness lodged in it,
But now murderers…
Your princes are rebellious,
And companions of thieves;
Everyone loves bribes,
And follows after rewards.
They do not defend the fatherless,
Nor does the cause of the widows come before them.

Isaiah 1:21, 23

TEACH OUR CHILDREN TO HAVE A LOVE FOR JUSTICE
This is one of the greatest goals we could have when bringing up our children.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
