Text: Proverbs 31:10-31
5 April 2009

Dear Parents,

A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT WERE NOT MENTIONED
There are a number of things that were not mentioned at all as we read Proverbs 31. The following things were not featured in any way!

1. Physical beauty

2. Parentage

3. Academic qualifications

That does not mean that the above are to be disregarded. However it is a fact that none of the above will necessary make a person a better wife or mother!

CHARACTER IS EVERYTHING
As we read Proverbs 31 we begin to appreciate afresh that what really matters is the character of the individual! That counts for everything!

She seeks wool and flax,
And willingly works with her hands.

Proverbs 31:13

1. “Wool and flax”

a) These are the things that people used to make clothes.

b) There were no factories in those days; clothes were all handmade.

2. “She seeks”

a) The picture here is that of a very hardworking person.

b) The seeking of wool would require her to follow the paths of grazing sheep.

c) Pieces of wool would be left on bushes and these would have to be collected.

i) The wool is then cleaned up.

ii) It is finally woven into pieces of clothing.

3. “Willingly works with her hands”

This is what makes her outstanding! She works hard and willingly. (The picture fits that of a new family struggling to make ends meet).

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
