Text: Proverbs 31
10 May 2009

Dear Parents,

SKILL AND STRENGTH
To have strength is wonderful! To have both strength and skill – that is an awesome combination! Let us see how these two virtues were combined in the following text!

She perceives that her merchandise is good,
And her lamp does not go out by night.

Proverbs 31:18

1. “She perceives that her merchandise is good”

a) We need to remember that this remarkable lady sells “merchandise”.

b) Some possibilities of her merchandise

i) Things derived from “wool and flax” (Proverbs 31:13)

ii) Clothing (Proverbs 31:13)

c) She is committed to doing qualitative work.

d) She must master great skills to make sure that her merchandise is good!

2. “And her lamp does not go out by night”

a) She is very hard-working.

b) It was normal to work from sunrise to sunset… but she extends her time to work by the light of her lamp!

c) This will require strength

i) Of will

ii) Of spirit

iii) Of mind

EMPHASISING THE ACQUISITON OF THESE VIRTUES
Let us encourage our children to acquire these virtues. It would take years to possess them! These virtues would stand them in good stead all their life!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
