Genesis
"Then God said… And God saw… God called…"
Text: Genesis 1:1-5
GOD’S VERY PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT IN THE CREATION PROCESS
How involved was God in the creation of the heavens and the earth? Sadly, some discount the personal involvement of God in creation! However, a genuine faith in God will receive quite a boost if time is taken to ponder over how deeply involved God was in the creation process!
1. “Then God said…” Genesis 1:3
As God saw the primordial darkness that prevailed, the first thing He did was to create light. Effortlessly, God spoke the word, “Let there be light!” And at the next moment, “there was light”. God brought His power to bear in the creation process!
2. “And God saw the light, that it was good…” Genesis 1:4
This text suggests that God carefully looked over what He did. He reviewed the light that He had created and He liked what He saw! Details are not unimportant to God! God took delight in His own work. He declared the light that He had created “Good”.
3. “God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.” Genesis 1:5
God even took the trouble to give names to light and darkness. The depth of God’s personal involvement in creation is most astonishing! If God were to devote such energy, effort and time to create the world, the least we should do is to cultivate our appreciation of Him as Creator!
A PSALM DEDICATED TO THE MAJESTY OF GOD’S POWER
David, the effervescent psalmist, was moved from time to time to write about the majesty of the power of God. In one instance, as he meditated on God, he was captivated by the thought of the power of His Voice. The simple words, “Let there be light” take on wondrous significance when read in the light of this psalm.
“Give unto the Lord. O you mighty ones,
Give unto the Lord glory and strength.
Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name;
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
The God of glory thunders;
The Lord is over many waters;
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.”PSALM 29:1-4
The earth was but a watery mass before the voice of God was heard! He spoke and His voice, being powerful and full of majesty, brought about creation! Faith teaches us how to stand in awe of this great Creator-God! Faith leads us to ascribe to the Lord both glory and strength. Heartfelt and humble worship is the only appropriate response as we ponder God’s Personal involvement in the creation process!
