(I) LITTLE COVERAGE OF MOSES’S LIFE IN EXODUS
1. The first forty years was hardly mentioned in Exodus
2. Information gathered from the following texts:-
a) Acts 7
i) He was well pleasing to God at birth (Acts 7:20)
ii) He was learned in all wisdom of the Egyptians (Acts 7:22a)
iii) Mighty in words and deeds (Acts 7:22b)
b) Hebrews 11
i) When he came of age (Hebrews 11:24a)
ii) Refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter (Hebrews 11:24b)
iii) Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God (Hebrews 11:25)
iv) Rejected the passing pleasures of sin (Hebrews 11:25b)
v) Esteemed the reproach of Christ greater than the treasures of Egypt (Hebrews 11:26a)
vi) He looked to the reward (in heaven) (Hebrews 11:26b)
(II) MURDER OF AN EGYPTIAN OFFICER
1. Moses went out to see his “brethren” (Exodus 2:11)
2. He saw an Egyptian officer beating a Hebrew slave (Exodus 2:11)
3. He slew the Egyptian (Exodus 2:12)
4. He thought no one saw this murder (Exodus 2:12)
(III) ON ANOTHER OCCASION
1. He tried to help two Hebrew men fighting with each other (Exodus 2:13)
2. His help was rejected
“Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Exodus 2:14
(IV) FLEEING EGYPT FOR MIDIAN
1. Moses’s deed was reported to the Pharaoh (Exodus 2:15)
2. He sought to kill Moses (Exodus 2:15)
3. Moses fled from Egypt (Exodus 2:15)
(V) SIGNIFICANCE
1. The beginning of faith in Moses
2. However there was no Divine calling yet
3. Moses was led by his own strong spirit at this point of time
a) Sense of justice
b) Taking the law into his own hands
c) He failed miserably at this juncture
