“NOW TO HIM WHO IS ABLE TO DO EXCEEDINGLY”

An Exciting Doxology

A doxology is a short hymn of praise to God. It is made up to two Greek words: “doxa” which means “glory”, and “logia” which means “saying” or “word”. The apostle Paul in his epistle to the Ephesians, as he thought of the glory of the Lord and His grace, broke into a short word of praise to Him. In the text ofEphesians 3, he had just written of his privilege of being given great grace so that he became a minister of the gospel to the Gentiles despite being less than the least of all the saints (Ephesians 3:8). He also wrote of how he prayed that the Ephesians could be strengthened by the Spirit of God and be able to comprehend the vastness of the love of God (Ephesians 3:19). As Paul thought about these things, he broke into an amazing doxology for the Lord. Let’s take time to appreciate the content of this doxology and be able to give praise to God too.

Giving Praise For The Amazing Power Of God

1. The Amazing Capacity Of God’s Power

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think”
Ephesians 3:20

The word “able” in the Greek is a verb that refers to the dynamic and powerful ability of God. He has the power to do great things. He has the power to do all that we ask or think. More than that, He has the dynamic power to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can pray and imagine. In other words, the power of God available has limitless capacity in our life and ministry. It can change Paul from a murderer to a minister to the Gentiles according to the Lord’s grace. God’s power can work in our life far more abundantly than we can realise.

2. The Amazing Efficacy Of The Power Of God

“According to the power that works in us”
Ephesians 3:20

Not only has God’s power limitless capacity, there is tremendous efficacy too. God power would work in a most definite way within us. The word “works” is where the English word “energy” originates from. The Lord’s power can fully energise us to do His will. Paul wrote of how when the Spirit of wisdom and revelation enlightens the eyes of our heart, the exceedingly great power that worked in Christ can also work in us who believe (Ephesians 1:19). This power can strengthened us with might by the Spirit in the inner man (Ephesians 3:16). It is the same effective power that enabled Paul to become a good minister of God (Ephesians 3:7). This great dynamic power can also work within us as it did in Christ and Paul.

Giving Glory To God In The Church Forever

“To Him be glory in the Church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
Ephesians 3:21

Truly, we must give glory to the Lord for such amazing power. Ultimately, Paul sought to give glory to the Lord for what he saw in the Church. Paul’s concern is for the glory of God in the Church brought about by the person of the Lord would continue to be there from one generation to another. Let’s seek to give glory to God in all that we do as a Church. Next week, we would be having our annual Junior Camp. Let’s pray for the Lord empowering on all involved as they do the work of God. Let’s pray that the Lord be glorified in all that we do as a Church.
