The First “I AM” Statement

THE SECOND “I AM” STATEMENT
I am the Light of the World.

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 8:12

As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
John 9:5

CONTEXT (Theological and Historical)

1. The World
Described as being in darkness

And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:5

2. Bearing witness of Jesus as the Light

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness to bear witness of the Light, that all through Him might believe. He was not that light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
John 1:6-8

3. Jesus as the True Light

That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
John 1:9

4. The dark blind world of the enemies of Jesus

a) “The Jews sought all the more to kill Him” John 5:18; 7:1

b) “He has a demon” John 7:20; 8:48, 52

c) “Therefore they sought to take Him” John 7:30

DECLARATION OF JESUS

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying,
