1. The God who calls the Messiah

a) God the LORD          Isaiah 42:5a

2. Understanding of God’s Call

a) Called in righteousness          Isaiah 42:6a

b) Will hold the hand          Isaiah 42:6b

c) Will keep          Isaiah 42:6c

d) Will give as a Covenant to Israel          Isaiah 42:6d

e) Will be a light to the Gentiles          Isaiah 42:6e

f) Will be empowered:

i) To open blind eyes          Isaiah 42:7a

ii) To bring out prisoners from prison (metaphorical)          Isaiah 42:7b

3. Strength of Commitment of God

a) He is the LORD          Isaiah 42:8a

b) His glory is involved; He does not give it away easily          Isaiah 42:8b

c) He makes a definite prophetic statement          Isaiah 42:9

i) The former things He said had come to pass

ii) He now declares new things

iii) He will ensure that this prophetic word would be fulfilled

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

Isaiah 42:10-13

1. Singing to the Lord a new song          Isaiah 42:10a

2. Singing His praise to the ends of the earth          Isaiah 42:10b

3. A call to the earth to respond to God in grateful song          Isaiah 42:11

4. A call to give glory to God          Isaiah 42:12

5. Assurance that the Lord will go forth to fulfill His word given          Isaiah 42:13

a) He will go forth in strength

b) He will perform all that He has said with great zeal
