Thanking God For His Blessing On Family Camp

Our Church family camp has just ended and we thank God for another great camp. He has blessed us once again in a special way. Our camp was held at Pulai Springs (JB) this time and we thank Him for specially watching over us. Although the movement from the hotel rooms to the meeting halls is not sheltered, we thank God that He held out the rain for most of the week. The accommodation and food were generally good. No one came down with any major health problem. The Lord also granted us journey mercies and we are most thankful for it even though some of us got lost along the way. The word of God taught to us was insightful and blessed by the Lord. Many of us were encouraged and challenged to be fishers of men.

The Challenge To Draw Close To God First

I would like to highlight two lessons that were learnt at camp.

1. Calling

“The Lord has called Me from the womb;
From the matrix of My mother, He has made mention of My name.
And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword”

Isaiah 49:1-2

One message that impacted hearts was God’s calling of the Lord Jesus to be His servant. The Lord Jesus had a great sense of calling to do the work of God. As we reach out to others, there should be this tremendous sense of calling. From the matrix of His mother’s womb, the Lord God had already called the Lord Jesus. His name was specially mentioned. Even as God called Jesus to do His will, there would be the hidden years where He would be specially trained to be a servant. His mouth would become a “sharp sword”. God would continue to train and “sharpen” the Lord Jesus till He was ready for the ministry, till He was ready to be an effective servant of the Lord. Let’s also seek not to run ahead of ourselves. Let’s seek to be instructed further, trained and guided till we are ready for ministry and soul winning work.

2. Communion

“The Lord God has given Me
The tongue of the learned,

That I should know how to speak

A word in season to him who is weary.

He awakens Me morning by morning,

He awakens My ear

To hear as the learned.”

Isaiah 50:4-5

Another night message that struck the hearts of many was the concept of communion with God. The Lord Jesus epitomized what it meant to commune with God early in the morning. He was awakened by the Lord God morning by morning, to rise up a long time before dawn, to find a solitary place and to pray (Mark 1:35). And the Lord God gave Him the tongue of the learned that He would be able to speak a word in season to Him who is weary. As He sought to be still before the Lord, there was close communion between the Father and the Son. He was able to “hear” and “see” what the Father does. When the Lord Jesus did what God did, the Father loved the Son and showed Him all things that He Himself did (John 5:20). In the same way, when we commune with the Father and He loves us, He would show us His truth and help us to have the tongue of the learned in order that we may be good fishers of men. Let’s seek to not just pray but to commune with God as well. Let’s learn to walk with the Lord and be taught by Him morning by morning.
