Seeing The Glory Of The Lord As King

Is the kingdom of God real and special to you? We pray that it will be as we take time to study about it at our YPG this year. In this great divine Kingdom, God is King over all things. He reigns with tremendous glory from heaven. In the text of Isaiah 6, the prophet Isaiah had a vision of the throne room of God.

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.”
Isaiah 6:1

King Uzziah was initially a good king (2 Chronicles 26:1-15). He did what was right in God’s sight. He sought the Lord in the days of Zechariah and God prospered the works of his hand. However, when he became strong and his heart was lifted up, pride caused him to think that he could be like the priests in offering incense in the temple of God. When he did this, God struck him with leprosy and he continued to be a leper till the day he died. Uzziah did not recognise how sinful he was before the great glory of the Lord in His temple. When God called Isaiah to be His servant, He wanted to make sure that he did. Isaiah saw how the Lord God was most glorious as a mighty King sitting on His heavenly throne. He was high and lifted up above all things. The angel who was with him cried out and declared the holiness of the Lord of Hosts. He spoke of how the whole world was filled with His glory. Isaiah saw the greatness of God all over the earth. He also saw the great holiness of God. Young people, do we also see God as our most holy and glorious King?

Realisation Of One’s Sinfulness

“Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The Lord of hosts.”

Isaiah 6:5

When Isaiah saw the glory and holiness of God, he realised how sinful he was before Him. His eyes had seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Isaiah felt a great sense of wretchedness in the presence of the Almighty King. The name “Lord of Hosts” is a reference to God as the commander of the heavenly army. Isaiah saw how he had been influenced by the sinful people of the world. Young people, we too can be influenced by our friends to sin. When we come before this great King, there should be this realisation of our total wretchedness as sinners.

The Cleansing Work Of The Lord In His Servant’s Life

“And he touched my mouth with it, and said:
‘Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away,
And your sin purged.'”

Isaiah 6:7

The Lord brought about a special cleansing in the life of Isaiah through an angel. The angel brought a burning coal to the lips of Isaiah and declared that his sins had been purged. The symbol of “fire” has the idea of burning away all that is wrong and sinful. We too need to the Lord’s cleansing as we come before the Lord’s throne of grace. We need the Lord to cleanse us before we can be used by Him to do His work. Let’s pray that the Lord will help us become clean vessels for His glory.
