The Daily Priority Of Looking Up To Our King
What is the first important thing that you do each day? For King David, getting up early in the morning and daily seeking God as his King was his priority. He saw the need to start the day with God in prayer.
“Give ear to my words, O Lord,
Consider my meditation.
Give heed to the voice of my cry,
My King and my God,
For to You I will pray,
My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord;
In the morning I will direct it to You,
And I will look up.”
Psalm 5:1-3
David recognized the Lord as his King in life. He determined within his heart that God would hear his voice first thing in the morning. There was this special regard for God as His King and God. Prayer was an important daily priority for King David. It was a daily event that he would not miss. Young people, let’s view meeting with our divine King each morning as a much needed event. Let’s make it the first priority of our day.
Compelling Reasons To Make Prayer A Priority
What are some reasons to make prayer a priority?
1. Facing The Challenges And Problems Of Life
“Because of my enemies”
Psalm 5:8
David was going through a time when wicked enemies plotted against him. They flattered him on the one hand but sought to lie and deceive against him on the other. As they did this against God’s anointed, they were also rebelling against God. David was driven to pray in order to face the challenges of the day.
2. Seeking The Lord’s Mercies For The Day
“But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy”
Psalm 5:7
King David also sought the Lord early in the morning because he humbly realized that he needed the King’s great mercies. He sought the Lord daily in His house, relying on His mercies to go through the day. Without the Lord’s mercies in our lives, we would not be able to survive in this world.
3. Finding Divine Direction For The Day
“Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness …
Make Your way straight before my face.”
Psalm 5:8
David also realized that he needed his King to direct him in his life each day. The Psalmist sought the Lord’s leading to do His righteousness. He was concerned about whether he was walking in the Lord’s righteous ways. He wanted the Lord’s righteous way to be very clear before him so that he could walk in it. Let’s seek to pray for the Lord’s leading in our life. We can rejoice much when we trust and follow His ways.
