Our Walk With Our King Affects The Way We Worship Him

Did you know that the way we walk with God each day is going to affect the way we worship Him? The Psalmist saw the need to be with his God and King each morning (Psalm 5:1-3). He determined within his heart that the Lord would hear his voice at the start of the day because he saw Him as his righteous King and God. As he cried out to God with regard to the problems and challenges that he was facing, he recognized that His King would deal with those who were wicked and deceitful. As he walked with God and saw His Lordship and righteousness, it fueled his own personal determination to worship Him.

“But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy;
In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.

Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies”

Psalm 5:7-8

He strongly desired in his heart that he would go to the house of the Lord to worship Him. At that point of time, the tabernacle of God was the Lord’s house. He determined to go to His house to worship Him with a right spirit.

1. Having Humble Dependence On God’s Great Mercy

David recognized that it was only by the mercies of God that he could offer worship and praise to the Lord. It was only in the multitude of the Lord’s mercies that he could enter into His presence. He realized how unworthy he was. As he worshipped the Lord, he realized how much he needed the Lord and His leading. Young people, do we recognize how unworthy we are before this great and righteous King? Let’s learn to humbly depend on His mercies even as we come to worship Him each week.

2. Having A Deep Sense Of Reverence

David also had a deep sense of reverence in worshipping the Lord. He saw God as one who was holy and His house was also sacred and holy. He had the highest regard for the Lord as he came into His house. There was also that proper regard for the Lord’s physical house. Young people, we too need to have the highest regard for our King each time we come and worship Him. Let’s never take a lackadaisical approach in coming into His house to worship Him.

Finding A Great Sense Of Joy In The Lord

“But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;

Let those also who love Your name

Be joyful in You.

For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous;

With favor You will surround him as with a shield.”

Psalm 5:11

When the Psalmist truly sought the Lord and worshipped Him in the right manner, it resulted in a great sense of joy within the heart. The Lord’s special blessing would be upon the righteous. His favor and protection would be upon them. David recognized how progressive joy would be part of their life. Firstly, when we learn to trust in Him, we would be able to rejoice. There would be the commencement of joy in the Lord. Secondly, we can cultivate our joy further because we see the evidence of the Lord’s hand in our life. As we look back on our lives, we can see the Lord being there to protect us. We can have this exuberant joy in the Lord’s mercies. Thirdly, we can have fullness of joy when we have learned to love the Lord’s name above everything else. Young people, let’s learn to find this great joy in the Lord as we learn to trust in Him. As we seek the Lord and learn to worship Him as our King, let’s choose to rejoice in all that God is and what He has done for us. Let’s be joyful in Him.
