WAIT ON THE LORD

Don’t Yield To Feelings Of Frustrations
One of the hardest things to do in life is to “wait”. In this fast paced world, where we want things quickly, the act of waiting can sometimes be difficult to do and sustain. When David reflected about the problems of life in the text of Psalm 37, he challenged his readers to not fret when the wicked seem to be prospering.
“Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way”
Psalm 37:7
People could give in to feelings of frustration when the Lord seemed not to be doing anything about what the wicked are doing. They show no signs of waning in their wicked endeavours and their lives look as if all is good and wonderful. The challenge for God’s people when encountering persisting challenges and difficulties in life and ministry is to wait on the Lord. We only frustrate ourselves when we become impatient with such worries that may come our way. Young people, our part is to learn to wait on the Lord.
Aspects Of Waiting On The Lord
What are two ways by which we can wait on the Lord?
1. Learning To Rest In The Lord
“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him”
Psalm 37:7
The word “rest” in Hebrew means to be still. We are to learn to be still in the Lord. It is in the person of the Lord and in His ways that we can find a deep sense of stillness and rest. In the midst of the challenges of life, we can find spiritual rest for our soul in Him. Resting in Him and waiting patiently for the Lord go together. As we trust fully in the Lord’s faithfulness, there would come greater maturity in being still before Him. We would learn to be patient as we wait on Him and not be frustrated by what we are going through. Trusting in God and learning to wait on Him must go together. Let’s learn to rest our soul in the Lord.
2. Learning To See The Lord’s Blessings For The Future
“For the evildoer shall be cut off;
But those who wait on the Lord,
They shall inherit the earth.”
Psalm 37:9
Those who do evil in the sight of the Lord will be specially dealt with by Him. Even though they seem to be prospering for a while, their end is assured. They will be judged by the Lord. Those who are righteous, on the other hand, will not take things into their own hands. They will not personally go against the evil doers. As they learn to wait patiently on the Lord and His mercies, they will “inherit the earth”. The Lord will definitely bless them with the ability to survive and thrive on this earth. As we wait on the Lord, He will also bless us and help us to be steadfast. We too will continue to dwell on this earth. Let’s learn to see the Lord’s blessing in the future as we wait on Him. Let’s learn to trust and wait patiently on Him.
