Giving God Soul-Felt Praise For 2009
Young people, do we know how to give praise to God for what He has done for us? We can learn much from the example of King David in how he sought to bless the Lord with his soul.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, o my soul”
Psalm 103:1-2
David sought to give praise to the Lord from all that was within him. He did not worship the Lord in a perfunctory manner. To David, blessing the Lord must be done with the whole heart and soul. He sought to bless the holy name of the Lord. As 2009 ends and 2010 begins, let’s learn to offer our soul-felt praise and thanks to God.
1. Remembering The Blessings Of The Lord
“And forget not all His benefits;
Who forgives all your iniquities …
Who redeems your life from destruction …
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
Psalm 103:2-5
The Psalmist sought to remember all the blessings that the Lord had given to him. How easy it is for us to forget all that God had done for us in 2009! We should always remember how our Lord has forgiven us of all our sins. Being forgiven of our transgressions is such a precious thing. The Lord may have also delivered us from situations where we could have lost our lives. Our gracious Lord has provided for us by satisfying our mouths with good things and our strength has on numerous times been renewed. Let’s praise the Lord for all His gracious blessings.
2. Deeply Appreciating The Greatness Of His Mercies
“For as the heavens are high above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him.”
Psalm 103:11
As the Psalmist contemplated further, he appreciated the vastness of the mercies of the Lord. It truly reaches into the heavens. Because the Lord is merciful, he has removed all our transgressions from us and He does not deal with us according to our sins. Let’s praise Him for the greatness of His mercies in setting aside all our sins.
Seeking To Fear The Lord In 2010
“But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him.”
Psalm 103:17
God promised that He would ever be merciful to those who fear Him. His mercies would be from everlasting to everlasting to those who love and honor Him. As we enter into 2010, let’s seek to fear the Lord. Let’s seek Him with a great sense of reverence. Let’s fear Him by obeying and doing His commandments.
