THE JOY OF HAVING UNITY

Learning To Rejoice In Unity

We must never take for granted our sense of oneness with each other. During the Easter period, we were deeply gladdened to see the Senior and Youth choir, together with many others, working hard together. The Easter concerts turned out very well. We truly thank God that He has blessed us with the ability to work and serve together. This joy was also reflected in David when he wrote Psalm 133.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!”
Psalm 133:1

It brought so much delight to David’s heart when he saw the unity of God’s people. For brethren to dwell in unity is such a pleasant thing. Unity is indeed a good thing to have and it must be treasured.

Comparisons Made Concerning Unity

Unity was likened by the Psalmist to two things.

1. The Precious Oil For The Anointing Of Priests

“It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Running down on the beard,
The beard of Aaron,
Running down on the edge of his garments.”
Psalm 133:2

Unity was likened to the expensive oil that was used to anoint the priest for his work. It is a precious thing to see brethren dwelling in unity. Being a Church doesn’t mean that there is automatic unity. When we do have unity, it must be appreciated and cultivated further.

2. The Refreshing Rain Of Hermon

“It is like the dew of Hermon,
Descending upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the Lord commanded the blessing –
Life forevermore.”
Psalm 133:3

Unity was also seen as something as refreshing and life giving. As the high mountains to the north of Israel receive much rain that will water great fields in the lower regions, even so unity will refresh and give us life. When God’s people have this sense of unity, it brings about much life and joy.

Young people, let’s learn to cultivate this sense of bond with one another. During the school holidays, the YPG is planning events like “Bond-bay” and “night outs” for us to build this sense of unity. Let’s take the time to come and forge a greater sense of affinity with one another. Let’s seek to rejoice in the unity of our people.
