SET YOUR HEART ON ALL THE WORDS

What Is Most Important In Life

What is the most important thing in our life and ministry? For Moses, it was the word of God and the Biblical teachings that came from it. Towards the end of the book of Deuteronomy, he sought to summarise everything that he had taught and commanded the people of Israel to do. Moses challenged them to do two things which he considered were most important in life and ministry.

1. Full-Hearted Commitment Towards The Word Of God

“Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today”
Deuteronomy 32:46

Keeping the word of God must not be a half-hearted endeavour. It should be done with all our heart. Moses challenged the people to set their hearts on all the words of God. He had taught the people of Israel that they were not to add nor subtract from the word of God (Deuteronomy 4:2). He also taught that God’s word was most crucial to life and how man must live on every word that proceeds from His mouth (Deuteronomy 8:3). Our challenge is to have a heart that will always fear the Lord and to keep His word. We must put our heart and soul into practising the word of God.

2. Getting The Next Generation To Keep God’s Word

“Which you shall command your children to be careful to observe – all the words of this law.”
Deuteronomy 32:46

Another important thing in life is the need to pass on our faith to the next generation. The next generation must also learn the importance of having God’s word in their life. They must be taught to have a proper regard for the Scriptures, to treasure and observe them. Another generation must rise up and they must seek to hold fast to the faith. This is the main reason why we have Junior Camps every year. Next week, we will see many camp officers seeking to teach our children from the word of God. We pray that the campers will come to have faith in God and will learn to keep His commandments. Getting the next generation to know the Scriptures and to keep them is most vital.

Not A Futile Thing In Life

“For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.”
Deuteronomy 32:47

Time is not wasted when we use it to read and know the word of God. Ultimately, it affects our life and the lives of the next generation. It is not a futile thing when we set our heart on His word. The way we keep God’s word will determine the way His blessings will come upon our lives. If Israel had followed the word, they would have had been blessed by the Lord. Similarly, our lives will also be blessed when we honour and keep His word. Let’s keep His word because our life depends on it.
