Defective View Of The Lord’s Promise Of His Coming

Why is it that people are not driven to reach out as they should? One of the continuing causes is having a defective view of the Lord’s promise of His second coming.

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness” 
2 Peter 3:9

Peter had to address this problem in his second epistle. Because it had been some time since the Lord spoke of His coming, people were beginning to think that He might not be able to perform His promises. Doubts began to flood the mind with reference to whether He would come again. Such a defective view and doubts can lessen our drive to bear witness.

Reasons To Drive Us To Reach Out

What are some of the reasons that should motivate us to reach out?

1. The Lord’s Impending Judgment Of The Ungodly

“The day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men” 
2 Peter 3:7

One day soon, the Lord will come again for those who belong to Him. But for those who do not have faith in Him, it would be a day of judgment and destruction. The Lord would with righteousness judge the world. Many will be destroyed and will be lost in eternal damnation.

2. The Lord’s Faithfulness In Keeping His Promises

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise” 
2 Peter 3:9

We must set aside the misconception that the Lord is delaying His coming. He is not slack in keeping His promises. The spiritual fact is that He will be coming. His second coming is an unrealised reality. He will fulfil His promise. So much more, we need to reach out now.

3. The Lord’s Longsuffering In Delaying Judgment

“But is longsuffering toward us” 
2 Peter 3:9

One of the reasons why He seems to be delaying His coming is that He is longsuffering towards us. The Lord is holding back His wrath for our sakes. God is holding back the winds of judgment for our non-believing family members’ and friends’ sake.

4. The Lord’s Desire For All To Be Saved

“Not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 
2 Peter 3:9

Ultimately, the Lord does not want anyone to perish. He is a most compassionate God. There is the staying of His judgment because He does not want anyone to perish but for all to be saved. Young people, let’s seek to do His will by witnessing to non-believers while we can.
