A Personal Declaration Of Love For God’s Word

Loving the Scriptures is an endeavour we know we are supposed to have. However, in actual reality, cultivating such a love is harder than it seems, even though we may have tried on a number of occasions. Can we ever have a special love for the Scriptures? The answer is “Yes”. The Psalmist in the text of Psalm 119 declared of a personal and deep love for the Scriptures.

“Oh, how I love your law!” 
Psalm 119:97

He personally declared to God concerning his own love for His word. He had a deep love for it. His example proves that we can have such a love for the Scriptures. Young people, let’s seek to cultivate this love for His word.

Strong Motivations To Love The Word Of God

What are some strong motivations for us to love and honour the Scriptures?

1. Finding Depth Of Wisdom And Understanding From God’s Word

“You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies” 
Psalm 119:98

It is through loving and knowing the word that there will come a depth of wisdom and understanding. The Psalmist wrote of how he was made wiser than his enemies through God’s commandments. He was able to possess more understanding than his teachers and the ancient writers. When we love His word, God will open His truths to us.

2. Finding Delight In God’s Word

“How sweet are Your words to my taste, 
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!” 
Psalm 119:103

The word of God can bring much delight and sweetness to the soul. The Psalmist spoke of how reading the word of God was sweeter to him than honey. The word of God can bring much joy and satisfaction to our soul. Let’s learn to love it.

Expressions Of Love For God’s Word

How would we express our love for the Scriptures? The word of God would become our “meditation all the day” (Psalm 119:97) The Psalmist had such a love for the Scriptures that he would dwell on the word throughout the day. He would take time to ponder and meditate on the word until it was it was part of him. The psalmist would also seek to keep the word of God. He “restrained (his) feet from every evil way that (he) may keep (His) word” (Psalm 119:101). The psalmist sought to keep the word of God by refusing to walk in the ways of evil. Let’s also seek to ponder deeply His word and to walk in all His ways.
