A Faith That Shows Care

Works speak louder than words. If we say we have faith in the Lord Jesus, then the best way to show it is through works. There is really no point just talking about our faith when it does not result in any form of love shown to others. Caring for people is a virtue that we as Christians must learn and cultivate. True faith in the Lord would definitely manifest itself in acts of love for others. Let’s seek to practise our faith by showing concern and care for others.

Two Ways Of Showing Care

Let me highlight two ways by which we can show care.

1. Doing Little Things That Show Care

“Please put these old clothes and rags under your armpits, under the ropes.”
Jeremiah 38:12

When Jeremiah was languishing in an underground dungeon, waist deep in mire, Ebed-Melech sought to rescue him. When he got permission from the king to take him out, he did something special that showed he cared for him. He brought along some old clothes and told him to place them under his armpits. Ebed-Melech was concerned that Jeremiah might get hurt when they pulled him up by the ropes. He did not want his skin to be hurt. So he made sure that Jeremiah would place the clothes under his armpits as they brought him up. This showed the gentle care that he had for Jeremiah. We too can learn to show care through the little things we do for others.

2. Showing Concern For Medical Problems

“No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities.”
1 Timothy 5:23

Another way that we can show care is through being concerned when people are sick. Paul showed concern for Timothy’s medical problems. Timothy may have had some stomach problem which frequently afflicted him. Paul’s advice to him was to take a little wine to soothe his stomach medical problems. Paul showed concern for Timothy’s medical infirmities. Let’s also show concern for those who are sick.

Showing Practical Care In Times Of Medical Emergencies

Young people, we can demonstrate care for each other in times of medical emergencies. This Saturday, we are going to have a combined meeting where we will learn how to care for people if a medical emergency arises. We can learn how to care for the elderly and how to help a person if he chokes while eating. We can also learn how to give CPR and apply first aid to those who need them. We will never know when a medical emergency might arise. Let’s be ready when they do happen. Let’s come and learn how to show practical care in times of medical emergencies.
