Having A Great Personal Vision In Life And Ministry

Young people, do you have a vision for your life and ministry? Vision is more than just having an idea of what we want as a career. It is much more. It is having a clear Biblical mental picture of what God wants us to do for Him as we live and serve Him. The apostle Paul wrote of having a great personal vision for his life and ministry.

“Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.”
Colossians 1:28

The main aim of Paul’s life and ministry was to preach Christ. The centrality of his ministry was to proclaim the Lord Jesus and His teachings. The mode of doing this was through warning and teaching every man with wisdom from the Scriptures so that they could grow towards spiritual maturity. What a lofty vision for his life! Young people, let’s also consider having such a Biblical vision for our lives.

Turning Vision Into A Reality

How can we turn this great vision into reality?

1. It Means Having A Great Goal

“To this end”
Colossians 1:29

Paul knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life. He wanted people to be trained and instructed. He was greatly driven to attain this goal for his life and ministry.
Let’s also learn to set great goals for our life and ministry.

2. It Takes Great Effort

“I also labor, striving”
Colossians 1:29

Doing the Lord’s work requires hard work. The word “labor” means to toil hard until we are weary. Paul spared no effort in slogging vigorously day and night so that he could minister well. The word “striving” has the idea of “contending in gymnastic games”. It is literally struggling and labouring fervently till we achieve what we want to achieve. Let’s not be afraid to work hard in the Lord’s work.

3. It Takes Great Dependence On God

“According to His working which works in me mightily.”
Colossians 1:29

Paul also depended on the power of God to work mightily in him. As he laboured hard, he saw how God also worked in his life and ministry. As we labour for the Lord, He will also work in us in a definite way. His power will operate within us mightily. Let’s learn to tap this dynamic power of the Lord. As we labour hard for the Lord, let’s trust the Lord to empower and work within us.
